New York State commercial casinos remain closed for the time being even though there are some indications that they might see an updated timeline of their reopening in the foreseeable future. State Senator Joseph Addabbo recently pointed out that casino venues should reopen soon, as their management witnesses New Jersey’s venues launch along with tribal casinos.
The state has had its brick-and-mortar casino locations closed ever since mid-March and for months, the people working there day in, day out have remained home anticipating their official return. More than five months have passed at this point and no sign of reopening has been given by the state government still evaluating the situation. Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently indicated that good news might be on the horizon.

Commercial casinos might witness their reopening date soon and it should be noted that most of them have already worked on their comprehensive relaunch floor plans, implementing all safety protocols ahead of a potential reopening announcement. Sen. Addabbo wants to see fair conditions for all gambling hotspots all across New York State and this includes tribal casinos, commercial casinos, and racinos.
The venues currently still in lockdown see some tribal venues reopen and thrive all summer, while the commercial operation loses valuable gaming revenue. Moreover, closed racinos find themselves unable to support the horse racetracks purses they are supposed to fuel with gaming revenue. This situation is harmful to both the gaming venues and the racetracks, and some of them will have to reduce the number of live racing events they bring this live season.
Vernon Downs and Tioga Downs are two of the racetracks that will have to make their last weekend of live racing September 12 and 13. This decision was made by Owner Jeff Gural in order to protect the nearly 300 job positions relying on the operation of the two racetracks. Without purse money, the two hotspots might see permanent closure this fall.

Saratoga Harness Horsepersons Association recently pointed out that the live season at Saratoga Casino Hotel might have to come to an end earlier than projected and the reason for this reduction is very similar to the aforementioned one. The purse money needed for the horse people participating in live events will soon run dry and the live season will have to be cut short.
Rivers Casino and Resort has deprived the fund due to the unprecedented situation and its closed commercial casino venue. The harness racing association claims that the casino resort should pay some US$700,000 so far. October 12 might see the end of this year’s racing season at Saratoga Race Course, even though every year sees live races well into December.
Saratoga Casino Hotel offers video lottery terminals for everyone interested, but it has been closed since March. The racino has reported a drop in its gaming revenue generated ever since Rivers Casino launched operation back in 2017. The foreseeable future will see more information on the potential reopening process taking over the commercial gaming field of New York State.
